MARINE TRANSPORTATION AND PORT FACILITIES

THE DELOM ADVANTAGE

Delom Services understands the reality and the constraints of shipping companies and the transshipment of bulk materials.

As days with good weather are numbered, our experts meet cargo ships along the St. Lawrence and Great Lakes corridor to carry out repairs, vibration analysis and other predictive tests, which will serve as a guide for maintenance teams once the ice comes.

Our workshop is a one-stop shop providing a wide range of reliability, machining, repair and overhaul services under one roof for electric motors, gearboxes, pumps, diesel engine components, stacker-reclaimers, harbour cranes and conveyors.

DELOM AND THE SHIPPING INDUSTRY
The St. Lawrence and Great Lakes shipping corridor has always been a major economic development area for Canada and the United States. Many raw materials produced in North America such as iron ore, coal and cement aggregates are transported in bulk in this corridor. The fact that this maritime axis is quite far north and almost inaccessible in winter increases pressure on the fleets that must therefore maximize the days with good weather.

The water levels in the St. Lawrence and Great Lakes corridor also forces marine fleet operators to limit the weight of cargo and travel without being loaded to full capacity. The reliability of cargo ships is therefore a constant concern for crews and becomes an issue for Delom Services as well. We are involved in the economic development of this industry by keeping fleets in good operating condition.

In addition, port facilities are facing increasingly larger, heavier cargo ships with a deeper draft. Deep-water ports are sought more than ever, to the detriment of those who cannot accommodate the giant ships from abroad. Delom Services is also involved in the maintenance and repair of port equipment, in order to optimize the loading and unloading time of vessels.
